Rutgers made one of its biggest splashes in two-plus years under Chris Ash by hiring Bergen Catholic coach Nunzio Campanile.
It's a move Ash said he's wanted to make for some time.
"It's something that, really, I kind of wanted to do when I got here from the start," Ash said Thursday on a conference call when asked if adding a prominent in-state high school coach had been a goal. "At the time, there were a lot of things going on here where the time just wasn't right. And at the time when I first got here, I was still trying to learn everybody, too, and find out who would be the right guy, the right fit.
