By the time that Alexis Jemal conquered her third straight nemesis, she had more than a gold medal to show for the 2003 NCAA Championships.
Jemal experienced a rush of confidence like never before after beating the fencer who previously ruined her undefeated senior season, her club coach's daughter and a superior international rival to capture the national title.
"I remember feeling like I could do anything," Jemal said, "and it would work."
Fourteen years later, Jemal's national championship in women's fencing's sabre weapon remains the last NCAA title won by any Rutgers athlete.
