The Heisman Trophy has been awarded to the "most outstanding player in college football'' 81 times to the since its creation in 1935, and only twice has a Rutgers player received votes.
In 1958, Rutgers tailback finished sixth in the Heisman voting -- five spots behind winner Pete Dawkins of Army -- after rushing for 757 yards, 15 touchdowns and a then school-record 106 points. The Scarlet Knights finished 8-1 that season, and Austin ended up earning Associated Press First-team All-America honors.
It took nearly 50 years for Rutgers to have another player worthy of Heisman Trophy votes.
