The best thing an optimist could say about Rutgers’ place in the authoritative nation-wide college athletics rankings is it’s improving.
One year after posting a four-year low in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Division I standings, Rutgers finished tied for 107th nationally during the 2017-18 season. That’s nine spots better than 2016-17.
Still: it marks the sixth time in eight years that Rutgers has finished 100th or worse in the standings that measure the best all-around intercollegiate athletic departments in the nation.
Meanwhile, Princeton once again reigned supreme as New Jersey's best all-around athletics program, finishing in the top-50 for the 10th straight year.
