Rutgers' crowd attendance for its seven-game football schedule this season decreased 11.3 percent from 2016, an NJ Advance Media analysis shows.
Rutgers ranked 11th in the 14-team Big Ten and 54th nationally with an average of 39,749 fans per game.
Last season, Rutgers ranked ninth in the Big Ten and 51st nationally with an average attendance of 44,804 for its seven home games.
Like most college football teams, Rutgers lists announced attendance -- which means tickets sold/distributed -- but an NJ Advance Media report in September revealed that only 28,964 tickets were scanned at the gates per game in 2016.
