PISCATAWAY – A quarter-century passed between the time that Barry Alvarez left his job as defensive coordinator at a national power to become head coach of a football team stuck in the Big Ten basement and the time that one of his apprentices made the same move.
Rutgers fans can only hope the similarities between a young Alvarez and Chris Ash continue.
In those 25 years, Alvarez built Wisconsin into the most consistent winning football program in the Big Ten — first as a College Football Hall of Fame coach and now as athletic director.
