PISCATAWAY – Inside the Rutgers football locker room, there is no secret scoreboard used to keep a running total of every act of leadership displayed by quarterbacks Chris Laviano and Hayden Rettig.
No referee waiting to raise a hand in the winner’s circle. No high-rising podium on which to receive a gold medal.
And yet coach Kyle Flood keeps saying that he wants to see which of his two co-starters at quarterback “wins the locker room” before deciding who will be No. 1 and who will be No. 2 on the season-opening depth chart.
So how will he and the rest of the coaching staff determine who has won that aspect of the battle?
