UConn is "closing in on an agreement" to hire Dan Hurley as its new head basketball coach, according to a report by The New Haven Register. Citing a source, the newspaper says there has been "considerable movement" over the last day and a deal is likely with the former St. Anthony and Seton Hall player and current Rhode Island coach, the son of legendary high school coach Bob Hurley Sr.
What it means for Rutgers: Steve Pikiell is definitely staying put. When UConn fired embattled former coach Kevin Ollie, some wondered if Pikiell, a Connecticut native and former Huskies standout, would be a target.
