The strange way Rutgers' Dan DiGeorgio was discovered and why he could be the next Pat Kivlehan

While proving to be one of the better players on Staten Island, Dan DiGeorgio had a host of offers to play Division I college baseball during his junior season at Tottenville High.

Instead, DiGeorgio opted not to play at the next level. The 6-foot-4 shortstop, who batted .551 while driving in 12 RBI and scoring 21 runs during his senior campaign, enrolled at Rutgers to pursue a Civil Engineering degree instead.

"He's an extremely bright kid,'' Rutgers baseball coach Joe Litterio said. "He was a kid that people were recruiting during his last few years in high school.
