The state Senate Budget Committee on Tuesday advanced a key piece of legislation that would support Rutgers University's recently announced athletics facilities plans.
The bill (S2880), sponsored by state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) last month through the Senate Economic Growth Committee he chairs, would provide up to $25 million of the $600 million in tax credits currently available under the Economic Redevelopment and Growth Grant Program for use by Rutgers to finance infrastructure development.
Lesniak said the bill was released from the Budget Committee by a unanimous 13-0 vote, and is scheduled to be heard by full Senate on Thursday.
