Legalized sports wagering is a monumental change for New Jersey.
It's not quite as dramatic for the athletics department at the state's flagship university.
Monday's Supreme Court ruling that a federal ban on state-sanctioned sports betting is unconstitutional will not bring any drastic changes in how Rutgers approaches sports betting, athletics director Patrick Hobbs told NJ Advance Media.
NCAA bylaws prohibit wagering on sporting events (or association with those who do) by anyone connected to college athletics. The Court's ruling won't change that.
"We remind our staff and our athletes repeatedly that they should never engage in any sort of gambling with respect to sports, or otherwise for that matter," Hobbs said.
