PISCATAWAY -- Nick Suriano officially is a member of the Rutgers wrestling team.
Suriano has enrolled as a student at Rutgers and will be with the team when it begins preseason practice on Monday, according to a source. Fall semester classes at the university began Tuesday.
The 125-pounder received a waiver from the Big Ten to be immediately eligible at Rutgers as a Penn State transfer, as first reported by NJ Advance Media on Sunday night. He is a sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.
Big Ten rules typically require a student-athlete to sit and lose one year of eligibility for an in-conference transfer, but the conference's Academics & Eligibility Committee approved Suriano's request after a summer-long saga that started with Penn State's refusal to show support for the waiver behind closed doors.
