Sammy Alvarez sent the college wrestling world ablaze when the No. 13 ranked wrestler knocked off No. 4 Micky Phillippi of Pittsburgh.
But he wasn’t done. The true freshman took out North Dakota State’s Cam Sykora (No. 8) 5-4 to win the 133 pound crown at the prestigious Southern Scuffle.
In the biggest run of his career, Alvarez will surely soar into the Top 10, if not Top Eight in the next set of rankings from Flo Wrestling. Usually being in the Top Eight of any ranking service means you are looked at as a potential All-American in March.
