PISCATAWAY – It took wins from two of its brightest stars, three upsets of Top 10-ranked opponents and tiebreaker criteria, but Rutgers wrestling captured its breakthrough win of a new era.
Anthony Ashnault, Richie Lewis, Anthony Perrotti, Nicholas Gravina and Billy Smith earned wins Saturday as No. 11 Rutgers split 10 decisions with No. 4 Nebraska and celebrated a 17-16 victory secured courtesy of the greater number of total points scored.
It was the first home win against a Big Ten opponent for Rutgers since joining the power conference last season. It hadn’t won at the Rutgers Athletic Center – where it hosts only its biggest draws – since Feb.
