On the verge of a Big Ten breakthrough, Rutgers ran into increasingly familiar nemesis Penn State.
The Rutgers women’s soccer team made the school’s first ever-appearance in a Big Ten Tournament final in any sport Sunday but didn’t take home the first team title as top-seeded Penn State prevailed 2-0 on its home field.
Third-seeded Rutgers, which beat Penn State 1-0 in Piscataway during the regular season, had its 10-match unbeaten streak snapped, losing for the first time since Sept. 27 against Northwestern.
Rutgers (16-3-2) was 8-0-2 during that stretch, climbing to No. 7 in the national rankings.
