Rutgers women’s soccer defeats Penn State 3-2 in season opener

While the start to the season was anything but normal, taking place six months late at an indoor facility 20 miles off campus, the result was familiar. Rutgers women’s soccer came from behind to defeat Big Ten preseason favorite Penn State 3-2 for the second straight season. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Scarlet Knights put together an offensive display after the break.

All-American Amirah Ali scored twice, including the game winner with less than five minutes remaining. Freshman Samantha Kroeger made a sparkling debut, scoring the first goal for Rutgers and assisting on Ali’s game winner. Senior Gabby Provenzano, as well as freshmen Bechi Fluchel and Allison Lowery added assists.
