Rutgers walk-on CB Sandy Anya hoping to seize opportunity

PISCATAWAY — At the end of last season, Sandy Anya was somewhere around No. 10 on Rutgers' wide receiver depth chart.

Anya sensed an opportunity to change his standing after head coach Kyle Flood was fired and replaced by Chris Ash in December. Anya played defensive back during his career at Franklin High so he approached Ash and offered to move to defense.

As simple as that, Anya was working with the cornerbacks during the offseason. As spring practice has progressed, Anya finds his reps increasing.

With Jarius Adams out with an injury and Charles Snorweah sidelined for academic reasons, Rutgers has only two scholarship cornerbacks — Blessuan Austin and Isaiah Wharton — participating in practice.
