It's the end of an era that was very good to Rutgers football.
After losing to FCS power New Hampshire in 2004, then-Rutgers coach Greg Schiano set it up so that all future FCS (formerly Division I-AA) games beginning in 2006 were against MEAC competition.
It's unlikely coach Chris Ash would have veered from that model, but Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany forced the issue, doing away with all FCS games after 2017 in favor of a stronger non-conference schedule.
