When Robert Barchi detailed the Rutgers athletics department's projected revenues-and-expenses budget through the 2020-21 academic year, the university President conceded the short-term financial forecast would show a significant deficit.
But Barchi vowed that the Rutgers athletics program would reach financial stability by the time it received a full-share of the Big Ten distribution.
"As I have often stated,'' Barchi said, "the program must become revenue-positive and financially self-sufficient.''
For now, the Rutgers athletics program isn't anywhere close to Barchi's stated goal.
