Rutgers’ 2015 football season is exciting—for all the wrong reasons.
On September 16, after a three-week investigation, Rutgers Head Football Coach Kyle Flood received a three-game suspension and $50k fine for speaking to an instructor about one of his players’ academic performance.
‘Who cares?’—you might say. Rutgers cares. Their clear rule—no talking to teachers about players—is designed to protect the University’s academic integrity. Is the rule needed? Without it, someone as visible and powerful as a sports program head coach could routinely pressure professors on behalf of players.
Did Flood attempt to pressure the professor? My read of the investigative report says no.
