EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Perhaps it's only fitting that Rutgers quarterback Gio Rescigno was rewarded the start against Michigan State in his final collegiate game Saturday.
The fifth-year senior, a Michigan native who grew up 90 minutes away from the Spartans' campus, was tapped by Rutgers coach Chris Ash as the Scarlet Knights' starter prior to kickoff Saturday afternoon.
For Rescigno, it marked the 13th start of his career and his first start this season.
The 6-3, 229-pounder from Macomb, Mich., spent this season as the backup to freshman Art Sitkowski, who was benched after throwing two first-half interceptions in the Scarlet Knights' home finale last weekend against Penn State.
