On New Year's Day, the Rutgers University Alumni Association asked its members to spread the word on a key piece of legislation that would enable Rutgers officials to make use of up to $25 million in tax credits to finance the construction of new athletic facilities.
As a result, Rutgers alums sent 13,885 letters to legislators and approximately 2,000 emails to Gov. Chris Christie, all in an attempt to urge the state lawmakers to sign into law a bill championed by state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union).
The grassroots effort worked, as Christie on Tuesday signed a bill that, according to Lesniak, will "help make Rutgers athletic facilities (Big Ten) quality for all sports and help recruiting efforts.
