It was appropriate that Rutgers wore black uniforms for this game in what was a 38-17 defeat to Illinois, the second worst team in the Big Ten. The performance felt more like a funeral than a blackout game, as Rutgers made the same type of mistakes that have plagued them the entire season. Another slow start, costly penalties, turnovers and poor tackling that led to big plays foiled any chance they had to win this game. Hope appears to be dead for Rutgers football in this 2018 season, as the second half of the schedule is immensely more challenging than the first half that just produced a 1-5 start.
