Rutgers field hockey is not going to ease into its first NCAA Tournament in 32 years.
The Scarlet Knights will make their first postseason appearance since 1986 on Friday when they take on reigning national champion UConn in the NCAA first round at 2:30 p.m. in College Park, Maryland.
If Rutgers wins, it will likely draw top-ranked Maryland in Sunday's second round with a trip to the national semifinals at stake.
"It's incredible. This team worked so hard this season," head coach Meredith Civico said. "We had a tough loss [in the Big Ten tournament] to Ohio State, but I think we're really deserving of this opportunity.
