PISCATAWAY — There was a passing moment during Saturday's game against Penn State at the RAC when it appeared Rutgers could end its epic Big Ten losing streak.
Sparked by a freshman and a little-used walk-on, the Scarlet Knights held a lead early in the second half. Hope vanished quickly, however, as Penn State took control and pulled away for a 70-58 win.
It was Rutgers' 29th straight Big Ten loss, which matches Northwestern's streak from 1989-92. The University of Chicago's 56-game conference losing streak that ended in 1946 is the longest in Big Ten history.
