For Rutgers women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer, an achievement 47 years in the making was accomplished Tuesday night in a 73-44 win over Central Connecticut State at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway.
The Naismith Hall of Fame coach notched her 1,000th career victory, becoming just the fifth NCAA Division I women's college basketball coach in history to achieve the grand milestone.
Like she had done previously in her legendary career, Stringer downplayed the significance as the Scarlet Knights improved to 3-0 this season.
"I think it's special, but it's a hard thing for me to even think about,'' Stringer said on the eve of the game.
