ESPN’s Joe Schad is reporting that Rutgers has suspended five players for the first half of the team’s September 5 opener against Norfolk State, including star wide receiver Leonte Carroo and quarterback Chris Laviano. According to Schad, the suspension is due to a curfew violation.

Fullback Kevin Marquez, cornerback Ruhann Peele and punter Tim Gleeson will also sit out the first two quarters against Norfolk State.

Laviano had been in competition with LSU transfer Hayden Rettig for the starting quarterback job, so Rettig will get the starting nod, per Schad.
