So we checked. We first turned to the Rutgers media relations department to see if there were any cases they could recall in the program's 147-year history. They couldn't, and then a sports-information staffer checked in with the NCAA's chief statistician, who weighed in with this:
"Unfortunately, we don’t have a way to do this historically. We’re getting a little better at tracking transfers in our statistics data but even if we were doing it really well, our historical data on transfers is lacking. Here is the response I received from our research group: We have done some larger studies using a selection of (student-athlete) data and tracking transfer movement with the help of the federal government (National Student Clearinghouse), but we don’t have that for all student-athletes.
