Producing big plays, limiting them, an emphasis for Rutgers

PISCATAWAY — In football terms, there isn't a textbook definition of a "big play.''

"Different people do it in different ways,'' Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said. "If you just talk about explosive plays in the game, it's 25 yards, but I've heard people (label it) 17 yards for a run or any run inside the 17 that scores. I've heard that used as a parameter at times — passes over 20 yards. Everybody kind of has their own way of doing it, but in general just an explosive play would be 25 yards.''

Based on that definition, the Rutgers offense has struggled to produce momentum-swinging plays while the defense has yielded too many.
