PISCATAWAY – If the offensive, defensive and special teams coordinators call the shots for their respective units, and the head coach has final say over everything, what makes an assistant head coach different than any other position coach?
“If the head coach decides to go fishing,” Norries Wilson joked, “you’ve got to step in for him.”
Wilson’s third year as the assistant head coach at Rutgers took a turn for the complex last week when Kyle Flood was suspended three games by the school for impermissible contact with a faculty member regarding a player’s grade. Flood remains in charge six days a week but turns over the reins on gameday.
