PISCATAWAY – Ralph Friedgen lost a zero off the end of his salary when he stepped down as Rutgers offensive coordinator, while his protégé Ben McDaniels doubled his annual pay with a promotion.
Friedgen, who was the highest paid assistant coach in school history last year at $500,000, will earn $50,000 in his new role as a special assistant to head coach Kyle Flood, according to contractual information obtained by Gannett New Jersey through an Open Public Records Act.
Friedgen’s new contract expires Feb. 10, 2016. He walked away from the final year at $500,000 on his old contract despite enjoying success in his lone season out of a three-year retirement.
