With Rutgers still awaiting word from the NCAA on sanctions for failures within its drug-testing program, the new chief medical officer for athletics made it clear that compliance is part of her expertise.
Rutgers introduced Dr. Yvette Rooks -- formerly the Head Team Physician at Maryland with 18 years of experience in college athletics and more than two decades of clinical practice -- as the new leader of its Sports Medicine and Primary Care program as well as its drug-testing program.
Rutgers athletics director Pat Hobbs instituted a new drug policy in August 2016 and took several steps -- including Rooks' hiring -- to show proactive change to the NCAA in hopes of receiving lighter penalties.
