North Carolina's Troy Heilmann celebrated an exciting 2-1 tiebreaker win over Ohio State's Ke-Shawn Hayes in a NCAA Wrestling Championships 149-pound quarterfinal, then he had to wait several minutes to see if his excitement was warranted.
Heilmann rode out Hayes and fought off a reversal attempt in the 30-second period, but Ohio State challenged Hayes should have been awarded two points. Had the challenge been accepted, Heilmann would have had to go back on the mat down 3-2.
However, the call stood and Heilmann had a chance to celebrate again as he clinched All-American status and a semifinal matchup with two-time national champion Zain Retherford on Friday night.
