Maryland coach D.J. Durkin placed on administrative leave

Embattled Maryland football coach D.J. Durkin has been placed on administrative leave a day after a stunning ESPN.com report detailed an alleged "toxic coaching culture" inside his program.

Offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who was hired this past offseason, has been named the Terrapins' interim head coach. Canada has no prior head coaching experience.

Damon Evans has announced Coach DJ Durkin is on leave effective immediately while a thorough examination of our coaching practices is conducted. Matt Canada will serve as interim head coach. We must do better, and we will rebuild a culture of respect in our football program.
