PISCATAWAY – Rutgers finally ended its silence on Kyle Flood by bringing down the hammer on its embattled football head coach.
Flood was suspended three games on Monday and fined $50,000, a penalty handed out after a four-week-long school investigation into his impermissible contact with a faculty member regarding a student’s grade revealed some explosive details.
“The coach had an inappropriate contact with the teacher of one of his students by email and in person, which is prohibited by university regulations,” Rutgers president Robert Barchi told Gannett New Jersey. “That’s a serious issue for us because we are very concerned about academic integrity and the fact that we keep a strong separation between the classroom and athletics so there is not inappropriate pressure on the academics and the faculty with regards to students who are in their courses.
