Kyle Flood excited to get Rutgers football season underway after “good offseason”

BRIDGEWATER – Given the opportunity to coach one of Rutgers football’s best ever quarterbacks one final time, Kyle Flood instead took a different route as Ryan Hart prepared to make his throw.

Flood and Hart threw out ceremonial first pitches Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark as “Rutgers Night” guests of the Somerset Patriots minor-league baseball team.

“I told Ryan, ‘There’s a lot more pressure on you than me,’” Flood said. “He’s someone who threw for a living, and he’s certainly a prolific player in our history. Ryan was a great player to work with.”

While Hart’s ball floated high, Flood, the fourth-year head coach, delivered an Ephus pitch strike from the mound, forgoing the customary spot in front of the rubber for first pitches.
