Kiy Hester is back.
The safety, who announced his intention to leave Rutgers last December and was set to finish his college career at Florida International, will in fact play for the Scarlet Knights in 2018. Hester re-joined the program on Thursday, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NJ Advance Media.
Hester's return was first reported by Scarlet Nation.
It's a move that gives Rutgers an instant boost in its secondary, particularly after projected starter K.J. Gray was dismissed from the team last week for an unspecified violation of team rules. Mutual interest in a Hester return developed after Gray's dismissal.
