ORADELL – Jarrett Guarantano chose Rutgers football history over a Rutgers football future.
The top-ranked high school quarterback in New Jersey committed Wednesday to Tennessee and head coach Butch Jones, who coached Guarantano’s father from 1990-92 as a graduate assistant at Rutgers.
“When I was a young kid, I always had dreams of going to Rutgers,” Guarantano said. “Rutgers was the only place that I ever really thought about. Sitting here feeling that Rutgers isn’t the place I decided, it wears on me, but I think I made the right decision.”
Guarantano announced his decision, which he finalized Tuesday night, in the Bergen Catholic High School library, as his voice cracked and he choked back tears.
