Janarion Grant's return brings much-needed hope to the Rutgers program | Politi

Janarion Grant had just done what he does best, turning a short pass into an electrifying 76-yard gain that put Rutgers on the doorstep in its Big Ten opener this fall. It was the sort of play that made big things seem possible -- a victory that day against Iowa, a better-than-expected first season for Chris Ash, maybe even a surprising bowl trip.

Then it was gone -- all of it -- in a flash.

Grant broke his ankle on the play, the Scarlet Knights couldn't punch the ball into the end zone from the 3-yard line on the next four plays, and while it is a bit overdramatic to say that nothing has gone right for this program since then, well, it sure feels that way sometimes.
