Jafar Williams leaves Purdue to become Rutgers running backs coach

PISCATAWAY – Chris Ash didn’t have to leave the Big Ten to round out his coaching staff.

Jafar Williams, 35, will be hired as Rutgers running backs coach, Gannett New Jersey confirmed. He currently holds the same position on Purdue’s staff.

A wide receiver at Maryland from 2000-03, Williams had been under Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell since 2011 at Kent State, when he coached one of the nation’s most explosive backfield tandems in Dri Archer and Traylon Durham.
