PISCATAWAY -- The memory of boarding up windows and taking cover at his grandmother's house during Hurricane Charlie sticks with Isaiah Wharton.
Thirteen years after the max Category 4 storm hit parts of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Cuba, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the southeast United States is preparing for stronger Category 5 Hurricane Irma to make landfall this weekend.
But this time Wharton is about 1,000 miles away from home, starting at cornerback for Rutgers.
"I've got a lot of family back there in Central Florida," the Kissimmee native Wharton told NJ Advance Media.
