PISCATAWAY – Within his first few days as Rutgers football coach, Chris Ash spotted what looked by his build to be an undersized defensive lineman trying to burn fat on the treadmill.
“How much do you weigh?” Ash asked, unaware that he was talking to the best player on his new team. “He gave me a number that was like 270. I said, ‘What are you doing on the treadmill? 270 and you are a defensive tackle? Do you know what is going to happen to you in this league?’”
Just like that, Darius Hamilton’s strength and conditioning focus shifted to gaining weight.
