Is there uniformity in college athletics testing and penalties for marijuana use?
To take a cue from the 1980s anti-drugs slogan, just say no.
A Gannett New Jersey review shows that Rutgers football has a drug-testing policy that starts out comparatively firm – a suspension of up to two weeks is in play for a first violation, most often treated with counseling – but is softer on repeat offenders than others in a sampling of six Big Ten schools.
The most obvious difference: Unlike at Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio State, Maryland and Indiana, Rutgers differentiates football players from other student-athletes when penalizing a third strike.
