Unless Rutgers offense lined up with five offensive linemen, five running backs and a quarterback, some legitimate rusher was going to be left standing on the sidelines.
It turned out that neither senior Josh Hicks nor sophomore Trey Sneed played against No. 8 Washington, and true freshman Raheem Blackshear had only three carries. Five tailbacks were dressed for the game, not including slotback Charles Snorweah.
"I think you've got to go out and compete every day at practice," running backs coach Lester Erb said. "Really, there's five guys in the room right now that I wouldn't have any problem with being in the game.
