Columbia University has suspended its wrestling season as officials investigate "frequent use of racist, misogynistic and homophobic terms" in text messages sent by team members, according to a report in The New York Times.
A statement released by the university said it "has decided that Columbia wrestlers will not compete until we have a full understanding of the facts on which to base the official response to this disturbing matter."
The Times reported that the team is still practicing, indicating a possibility that the season could continue once the investigation is completed.
