On the heels of a 9-9 campaign, Meredith Civico knew she would need to get creative with a roster that graduated six of 11 starting players.
She did just that heading into her sixth season as Rutgers field hockey coach, integrating six freshmen and two transfers into an already-young nucleus.
"The young players have come in and added a lot of energy,’’ Civico said. “We’ve got some real quality with some of our young players. I’ve been impressed with how they’ve performed. Gaining that experience in the Big Ten is something that they’re learning as they go.
