NEW YORK — When word crossed his radar that the previous Rutgers administration had agreed to move a football home game in 2017 against Maryland to Yankee Stadium, Pat Hobbs came to a realization that no contracts were signed. It meant that Rutgers could escape the agreement-in-principle without penalty.
But that wasn't going to happen, the Rutgers Athletics Director says. Not when a long-lasting partnership with one of the iconic franchises in sports hung in the balance.
Still, Hobbs was savvy enough to realize moving a football game out of its on-campus stadium to another venue is never a popular idea to the Rutgers fan base.
