When Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy last season, it seemed like a foregone conclusion for a variety of reasons.
The buildup to Saturday night’s Heisman Trophy ceremony felt different, with finalists Derrick Henry, Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey all having legitimate arguments for college football’s greatest individual award.
Now that the winner has been announced, Gannett New Jersey voters Ryan Dunleavy, a fifth-year voter, and Josh Newman, a second-year voter, are permitted to reveal their ballots and share their thinking. Unlike last year when they both voted Mariota, Melvin Gordon and Amari Cooper in that order, their ballots look different this time around.
