PISCATAWAY – For a reference point on how to know if a sophomore quarterback is hitting the right benchmarks in his development, Kyle Flood doesn’t have to delve back very far into his memory.
Three years ago, Gary Nova won a training camp battle to be Rutgers starting quarterback.
At the time, Nova was a true sophomore with five starts under his belt, whereas current competitors Chris Laviano and Hayden Rettig have an extra year of experience as redshirt sophomores but neither has made a start.
Still, Flood saw a sign during the first week of training camp that his passers are on the right track.
