There was sad news this week within the Rutgers community, as former Rutgers wrestler George Mulligan passed away at the age of 86.
Mulligan, a four-year letterwinner and team captain, finished in fourth place in the 155 pound weight class at the 1955 NCAA Championships as a senior, earning All-American status. He also played quarterback for the sprint football team on the banks. After graduating from Rutgers, Mulligan joined the Navy, becoming an officer and pilot during his military career. Later, he became a school teacher, working at Bay High School in Panama City, Florida and Middlesex High School in New Jersey.
